Godsend for the new caretaker

I was put into the role of medical decision maker without warning when my otherwise healthy mother fell down the stairs and broke her neck. I am grateful that she already had all the important legal documents I needed, advance medical directive and durable power of attorney, in place. So I had the power to make decisions, but not the knowledge. In meeting after meeting with helpful hospital staff and the person in charge of helping me file for Medicaid I felt overwhelmed by my lack of understanding of what the terms they were using really meant. Last night I bought this for Kindle and didn't go to bed until I had finished all the applicable chapters.

In the coming year she may need anything from living at a skilled nursing facility to in-home care, and thanks to this book I understand now what each type of care is called, what exactly that entails, how much to expect it to cost, how to find information on facilities, and how much help to expect in paying for it from insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid. The chapters on what Medicare and Medicaid do and don't cover based on marital status and assets were detailed yet totally understandable. This book has made a huge difference to me and I will be recommending it to my mother's siblings as well.

Finally found a COMPLETE book of Seneca's letters. Yep, this bad boy has all of 'em.
This is the one you need folks. Great translation. Nice paperback size [For a book with 124 letters].

Thus, conversion to electrochemically powered transportation systems appears to be an important step by means of which the difficulties of air pollution and the effects of an increasing concentration in the atmosphere of carbon dioxide may be met. Cor- sion is recognized as having an electrochemical basis. The synthesis of nylon now contains an important electrochemical stage. Some central biological mechanisms have been shown to take place by means of electrochemical reactions. A number of American organizations have recently recommended greatly increased activity in training and research in electrochemistry at universities in the United States.

Great Electrochemistry Series!

These authors have a great writing style. This is a subject matter that has a potential to be very, very dry but the authors have somehow made it enjoyable. If they get into hardcore calculations and derivations that you might be a little rusty on, they anticipate that (I assume from lots of students' feedback) and include appendixes at the end of each chapter so that you don't need to run off and find the corresponding chapter in one of your math/physics/chemistry textbooks. They also have a very useful nomenclature guide (in the first book only) in case you keep forgetting what certain symbols mean and what units they are in. The footnotes are great and keep things from getting too dry. Overall, I would definitely recommend these three books.

Note: Unless you have a fetish for hard covers, get the paperbacks; they're half the cost. When I bought these books from amazon.com, it was very confusing to figure out which books to get. Here are the ISBN's of each of the three books in the series. This will save you some headache:

The essential book on Britain and Europe.

Denis Macshane was the best Minister for Europe any British government ever appointed. He knows the cultures, languages and the main political and business personalities of key countries and has probably written and certainly thought more about Europe and Britain's role in it than anyone of his generation. This book, on the serious and growing prospect of Britain leaving the EU, is a book he probably hoped he would never have to write. But the prospect of Brexit now looms before us, and the reasons why and the price that Europe and Britain would pay for a British departure have never been so thoughtfully nor so clearly explained. A passionate pro-European, Macshane has nonetheless written a remarkably fair-minded and judicious assessment that should be read not only by Britain's political class but by every voter who can cast a ballot in what looks like an inevitable referendum.

This is a horrible book. It reads like someone that has used ...

This is a horrible book. Lots of content/steps are glossed over and left for the reader to figure out on their own - how did they get from point A to point D? I bought this book as a MS SQL DBA needing to get familiar with Oracle. I figured the "for dummies" part would break this down into something easy to digest. Granted Oracle is a little more complex than MS SQL but this book was a bunch of random steps with no clear instructions, the author assumes you are familiar with the oracle environment already and you know how to navigate in it. This is not a good book to become familiar with Oracle 11g. I found the online oracle documentation to be much more useful for someone new to oracle. Don't waste your money on this one.

Many Dummy books break down the subject matter in a satisfactory, yet simplified way. This book disappoints in that department, but might be useful for someone whose company is not training or paying someone to learn the topic, but holds them responsible for daily backups.

About the Author
David holds a B.S. degree in ocean engineering and a M.S. degree in civil engineering from the Florida Institute of Technology, and a Ph.D. degree in civil engineering from the University of Connecticut. �He was employed by General Dynamics Corporation Electric Boat Division for five years, where he provided submarine construction support and conducted engineering design and analysis associated with pressure hull and other structures. �In addition, he conducted research in the area of noise and vibration transmission reduction in submarines. �He then taught at Lafayette College for one year prior to joining the civil engineering faculty at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, where he has been since 1990. �David is currently a member of the American Railway Engineering & Maintenance-of-way Association Committee 15 (Steel Structures), and the American Society of Civil Engineers Committee on Blast, Shock, and Vibratory Effects. �He has also worked with the Federal Railroad Administration on their bridge inspection training program. �Professional interests include bridge engineering, railroad engineering, tall towers, structural forensics, and blast-resistant design. �He is a licensed professional engineer in Connecticut and Pennsylvania.

Born in Philadelphia, Russ holds a B.S. degree in civil engineering from the University of Delaware and an Sc.D. degree in the field of structural engineering from The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He taught at Lehigh University and Worchester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) before joining the faculty of the University of Connecticut where he held the position of Chairman of the Civil Engineering Department and taught for twenty-six years. In 1991 Russ received the Outstanding Civil Engineer Award from the Connecticut Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Born in France and educated in France and Switzerland, Ferd held an M.S. degree from the Sorbonne and an Sc.D. degree in theoretical mechanics from the University of Geneva. He came to the United States after serving in the French army during the early part of World War II and had taught for four years at Williams College in the Williams-MIT joint arts and engineering program. Following his service at Williams College, Ferd joined the faculty of Lehigh University where he taught for thirty-seven years. He held several positions, including the University Distinguished Professors Chair and Chairman of the Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics Department, and in 1995 Ferd was awarded an honorary Doctor of Engineering degree by Lehigh University.�

SI Units only

I bought this for my class and thinking that this was just a cheaper edition of the 10th edition because it is a soft cover. However I soon learned that the 10th edition used for the class and thhis 10th edition are different because this one is all in SI units for the problems and also some of the problems are out of order as compared to the other 10th edition of the book which means when an instructor assigns problems, you have to make sure you are 1. doing the correct problem that the instructor assigns, and 2. that you are using the correct units and numbers.

It's a good book overall

Well this is a good book but be aware that it is a college level book. To me the text was explanatory enough. The lectures are followed by some examples. And be aware engineering problems are not always the same you won't always have a worked out example to follow. The book gives the intuition and tools required to do the problems but you still need to apply the critical thinking to know what to use when. Some of the problems did seem a little too difficult but overall I liked this text. Not too basic not too complex

As others have also said, this book is useless as a teaching text. It might as well just be a list of questions without explanations. The text and examples are very vague and unhelpful, and many of the questions are very difficult or impossible without being presented with a basis to solve them prior to attempt.
Book needs much more explanatory text and examples, and problems at chapter end should have worked out solutions. If, as the professor claims, this is actually the best statics text out there, I'm surprised anybody becomes an engineer.
