Mmmm delicious awkward, nervous hero. Part of the reason I really enjoyed this book is that it’s absolutely laden with UST. A lot of time in New Adult the sex happens so fast that a lot of the tension fizzles out.�Beautiful Secret does a remarkable job of keeping the sexual content heavy (all Lauren’s books are pretty damn hot) while keeping the tension high. I LAUGHED, I CRIED, I NEARLY COMBUSTED... A MUST-READ!!

My mind is still reeling because this book was my complete and utter undoing. I am writing this review while literally still hugging my now beloved paperback copy, secretly hoping that the beautiful words in it would somehow escape and infuse themselves into me forever. With one of the most phenomenal writing styles of our generation and flawless, iron-clad character development, this talented writing duo has given us once again an unforgettable, emotionally engaging storyline to become addicted to, this time with two incredibly intricate characters and a perfectly paced, meticulously crafted relationship that is never rushed, never even hurried, and solely driven forward by the characters’ emotional growth and self-awareness. I gobbled up every word, immersing myself into a story that had my attention from the get-go, and I fear I will never be able to fully express how much I truly adored this book.

An extrovert by nature, Ruby’s honest and communicative disposition shake the very foundations of Niall’s introverted, quiet reserve, making him feel adventurous, interesting, fun for once—sides of himself he never got to see during his decade-long marriage to a woman he barely knew. Everything he feels for Ruby is new to him, part of the uncharted territory of his inexpressive personality, thus forcing them to commence a carefully paced, open and honest exploration of what a sexual relationship between two such opposites might entail. And what it would take to overcome all the emotional hurdles standing in their way.

What starts as a sexy, rather flirty storyline, quickly morphs into an even sexier but deeply emotional romance that is truly remarkable in its approach to the way these characters learn to discover one another, and themselves in the process. We hear both their voices throughout the story, that precious insight into both of these characters making us appreciate their deepest fears and hang-ups a lot more intimately.

I laughed, I cried, I felt my body burn from the sheer sexiness of too many scenes in this book to count, never knowing a guy merely touching a woman’s calf could make me literally combust in my own skin like that. And I felt every single emotion these extraordinary authors had expertly woven into this story. Their signature climax in the end carries that sweet punch of angst that we’ve become helplessly addicted to, perhaps even pricklier this time around as it left me a sobbing mess in its wake, only standing to show that there is no emotion these authors are unable to stir in their readers. A beautiful read, an astonishing love story, a couple whose journey I understood and felt from beginning to end—this is a book I would recommend with all my heart.

Christina Lauren took what I'd come to expect of this series and flipped it upside down.

Beautiful Secret is the delightfully entertaining story of Niall Stella, Max's brother across the pond, and Ruby Miller, a London transplant originally from San Diego. Both characters were briefly introduced in previous Christina Lauren books, but if I thought I had them pegged, I was starkly mistaken. Niall, hugely successful in his field, and Ruby, an engineering student and intern on the rise, find themselves shipped off to New York together for a month long business trip. Initially the dynamic between Niall and Ruby felt vaguely reminiscent of that of Bennett Ryan and Chloe Mills in Beautiful Bastard. Niall is an extremely successful businessman in the area of urban planning, and Ruby is a young intern who's had a relentless crush on him for months. Her crush evolving in the board room of their office, her fumbling nervousness whenever he's present, their blooming attraction taking flight despite his position of power in the work place. all similarities that made Beautiful Secret seem as though it was following in Beautiful Bastard's footprints. But it isn't so. These characters, their journey together, where they've been and where they're going, deviates so far from that path, it's unrecognizable. The writing team of Christina Lauren continues to surprise me with an unpredictable, sexy, surprising story line that's like nothing they've written before.

Niall contrasts from the other men in the Beautiful series in more ways than I can possibly count. Unlike Bennett, Max and Will, Niall isn't afraid of commitment. In fact, he's been married and divorced and doesn't have much experience outside of his recently dissolved marriage. He's also not as brash, but rather quietly flirtatious and sweet. Niall's inexperience, his reluctance and uncertainty, his quiet containment, all of it made him that much more endearing to me as the reader. There's something very alluring about not know what Niall is capable of. He doesn't know himself. Conversely, while Ruby is young, fresh out of undergrad, she's still the more forward, more feisty, more aggressive half of this pair. They compliment each other perfectly. He grounds her, she lightens him. He reigns her in a bit, she forces him to let go. He thinks too long, too hard, too much. She's spontaneous and carefree. He's rather refined and methodical. She's sassy and reckless. It's a very welcome change, this dynamic. Together, Niall and Ruby make for a Beautiful Secret that is sexy and fun and completely unpredictable.

Anyone who thinks that they know what to expect with this installment will be both mistaken and surprised, as I was. The build in Beautiful Secret is slow and tortuous. Rather than being overtly sexual, it's painstaking and sensual, the attraction and desire growing exquisitely slowly. Niall Stella is scrupulous with his self-control, and Ruby is one patient woman. Where the sexual exploits of the blooming romances in previous books may have unfolded in the bedroom, on the conference room table, or in a sex club, the sexual nature of Niall and Ruby's relationship unfolds through titillating conversation and provocative confessions about their mutual desires and fantasies. It's an achingly slow build, but that pace made for such an intense slow burn.

Christina Lauren executes a flawless story in Beautiful Secret, captivating the reader with this luscious addition to an explosively sexy series. True to form, Beautiful Secret is rife with sexual tension, passionate romance and an unexpected climax that gave my heart those exquisitely painful tugs and twinges I so desperately crave. With wholly bewitching characters, an emotionally intense, yet deliciously sweet story line, Beautiful Secret was impossible to put down. I was consumed. I'm insatiable when it comes to this writing pair, ravenous through every page yet reluctant for it to end. This story truly was a game changer. Christina Lauren took what I'd come to expect of this series and flipped it upside down. This story maintains the distinctive flavor that runs through the whole series, but everything feels different. From the meticulously crafted personalities of the characters, to the drastically different dynamic they share, to the completely outside the box course of events that drives this plot, this story affirms that there's a whole lot more up Christina Lauren's sleeve than I ever imagined.

The queens continue their reign. 5 stars for my new book boyfriend, Niall.

Oh Christina Lauren. You just do this to me every single time. Every. Single. Time.

Fans of their writing will find all the things they typically love in Beautiful Secret. Hilarious inner dialogue, tangible sexual tension, and a heartbreaking level of emotion and sweetness in the growth of the relationship between Niall and Ruby. The journey to actually hitting the sheets took longer than I expected (I mean, hello, Beautiful Bastard anyone? Somewhere in chapter 1 or 2, right?), but in no way did it detract from their story. Anything else wouldn't have been authentic for Niall's character. FYI- Telling me he's a Mr Darcy? Yes, just yes. Thank you, for that mental image. I adored that he was hesitant and unsure and openly admitted that he didn't know what the frick he was doing. Ruby may not have been my favorite heroine (that is still a tie between Chloe and Hannah) but together, I loved them.

I have a couple spoilery things, that I'll keep to the end of the review, but I will admit two things that *almost* knocked this down to four stars for me. 1- Ruby's internal conflict came very late in the book, and didn't make a ton of sense to me since it did kinda come out of left field. And 2- (people are going to think I'm insane for this) I could NOT STAND the font that Niall's POV was written in. Seriously, it was difficult to read. I felt nuts for thinking, because it's just a font, right? But honestly, the first half of the book, I didn't even look forward to his chapters because it hurt my eyes. No need for a different font, editor. Labeling the chapter is just fine, we're smart people.

Okay, and back to my everlasting love of this book. *SPOILER-ISH STUFF*

Thank you. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for giving her a backbone at the end. Oh, I prostrate myself before you. THANK YOU for having Niall hold himself back from kissing her or touching her when she was flaming (and justifiably) mad. I was like, raising my hands and going "YES, YES YES YES!" when she explained why she needed space. And it was so refreshing. Because it was REAL. So many books have the big he-man push for angry, makeup sex and all is forgiven. Oh, you're going to make me see stars? Great! You're forgiven! But no, in the infinite awesomeness that is Christina Lauren, you gave us a heroine who straight up says, NO, I need some space and you will give it to me. That's the kind of heroine I want to read, and that's the kind of love story that I will pay almost $8 for. And the sweetness of the reunion? Oh my heavens. love. I am just so in awe of their ability to perfectly balance steamy sexy times and depth of emotion.

You two, you just rock. Keep it up. I'll buy them as long as you write them!

Great Gift for Anyone Going into Teaching,... For the RIGHT Reasons

After reading this, one could be forgiven for assuming that Horace Mann was a champion of private schools, but in fact he was one of the earliest advocates of tax supported public schools. My, how his dream has tarnished in the more than a century and a half since he wrote this! In far too many cases public school teaching has declined from a calling, to a profession, to a job, to make work for the otherwise unemployable.

Of course there is and hopefully always will be a dedicated core of public school teachers in it for the right reasons. One prays they are still the majority, but one has serious doubts. One way you can contribute to fixing the problem as opposed to just grousing about it is to encourage those with the necessary dedication and purpose and talent to make teaching their career, either in public or private schools, and one way to do that is to give them the gift of inspiration and good advice Horace Mann first gave in 1840, as part of his Fourth Annual Report of the Massachusetts Board of Education, that is every bit as relevant today, arranged topically into four different sections.

The first is entitled herein "Knowledge of Studies". "Teachers should have a perfect knowledge of the rudimental branches which are required by law to be taught in our schools." No keeping one lesson ahead of the class is going to be acceptable to old Horace! Of course the wide increase in knowledge to be imparted today arguably requires a greater degree of specialization than Horace might have been comfortable with, but at the minimum a teacher should know his or her area of expertise backwards and forwards, if only in order to better catch subtle errors before they become ingrained errors.

The second is entitled herein "Aptness to Teach". Not everyone who knows a subject can teach it. Part of the process of deciding whether or not to go into teaching is determining whether one has that aptness or not, and this section will help one to determine this as it argues its necessity.

The third is entitled herein "The Art of Managing a Classroom". Not everyone who knows a subject and possesses an aptness for teaching can manage a classroom, but to a greater extent than is the case with aptness to teach, managing a classroom is something that can be learned and reading this section is a good start.

The last is entitled herein "Molding Good Behavior". Besides making the usual arguments for the importance of molding good behavior as a teacher, this short section offers an intriguing caution about imparting one's own eccentricities to one's students. In our "do your own thing" world this might be the hardest sell of all, but it doesn't hurt to be reminded that children are impressionable and one should always be careful about what one is impressing.

Note: One could complain that this book is available online for free. Well, yes, what part of in the public domain do you not understand? However, trying to get away with giving someone a printout as a gift will earn you the nickname of cheapskate. If all you want to do is read it yourself, then by all means stick to the free sites. However, if you are looking for a way to get through to someone else, you are better off buying a copy, and a solitary sawbuck for this sturdy pocket-sized reprint is going to be tough to beat. The book to learn Oracle database design with.

Murach’s Oracle Sql and PL Sql for Developers, Second Edition, continues in the tradition of the Murach publishing company. They have provided with this edition all that a developer may need to learn the application development techniques associated with database development.

For developers new to the database world, the even numbered pages provide textbook like sentence structure to explain a particular issue. For the more experiences developer the odd pages of the text provide an outline of the issue or technique to help you remember what you studied in the past. This combination of writing technique makes this book much more valuable not only for the student but also to the developer who needs the reference material later on. The design and development activities of an application and web developer are only enhanced by the technical knowledge added by surveying this book. I have found it to be an excellent reference for general database design issues.

This book will not turn you into a DBA. For that it would need to add several chapters on security, maintenance plans and replication. What it will do for you is give you an understanding of what makes a relational database tick. When it illustrates normalization you get to see how much more efficient a relational database is over say a “No Sql” database like RavenDb or MongoDb. Enterprise applications need relational databases to support their ever changing data needs.

As an experienced application architect I can say if you are an application or database developer using Oracle as your relational database, this book is a must for you. If there is only one reference book on your shelf, this should be the one.

Must have book for Oracle Developers

Murach’s Oracle SQL and PL/SQL for Developers is the latest book from the famous house of Murach Publishing based in California, USA. The book consist of five section divided into several chapters and two appendixes.

Section 1 provides a basic introduction to relational databases in addition to the use of various Oracle SQL Developer tools. You will learn the steps required to start and stop the database service, usage of SQL*Plus, creation of a database connection, usage of SQL Developer, SQL Reference manual, working of snippets window.

Section 2 of Murach’s Oracle SQL and PL/SQL for Developers examines the steps required to retrieve data from both single and multiple tables, code summary queries and sub queries. You will also learn the steps required to insert, update and delete data in addition to use of data types and functions.

In Page 216, the author has examines the steps required to commit and rollback changes. If you would like to delete rows and make use of a subquery in a DELETE statement you should navigate to Page 228.

The chapters in section 3 provide coverage of database design, creation of tables, indexes and sequences and views. The final chapter of this section examines the management of database security.

In page 388 of Murach’s Oracle SQL and PL/SQL for Developers, the author examines the steps required to grant privileges with the help of SQL statements and description. You will also learn about revoking of privileges.

Good overview and adequate depth.

Murach books are always an excellent resource both for learning and later as an on-demand reference manual. This is due to the format of the book which places the explanation and learning on the left pages and the examples, diagrams and code on the right pages.This book covers the basics of working with SQL database as well as items specific to Oracle SQL.

The first section of the book focuses on an introduction to SQL. It ensures that the reader has a basic understanding of client/server systems including hardware and software. It also introduces the basics of relational databases explaining the basics of tables, unique keys and relationships between tables. It explains the difference between working with data and working with database objects.

The Third section covers database design and implementation. This has always been an area of great interest to me and I was happy to see such a complete explanation of normalization. This is an important concept that I find far too often ignored in many of the systems I encounter. I covers the first, second and third normal forms as well as when and how to denormalize data structures. Another chapter in this section covers another area that is far too often not given enough attention as well; database security. Unlike the previous section on data normalization I found this section to be lacking. While the discussion was sufficient in regards to exposing the reader to the tools and settings available in Oracle it did not map these tools to real world situations or a framework such as NIST 800-53. It also did not discuss client server application design that could assist in meeting security requirements for production applications. While some might argue that this is the domain of the IT security department I contend that database administrators and applications developers must be aware of these requirements and how their design decisions impact the overall security of an application or data.

The other minor issue I have with this book is the fact that it does not cover installation on Linux. This has been an ongoing issue I haev with Murach. I could understand this on Microsoft focused products like .Net, but this has been true when covering open source MySQL, Java, Java Servlets and JSP, HTML5, JQuery, and event Android programming.

In summary I would recommend the book despite its weakness in regards to database security and Linux installation.

An important book but room for more information in future editions.

This book is a very impartial and fair review of the British law machine. There are, however one or two, admittedly fairly minor omissions that I would like to have seen included including 'contempt of court' and the 'seizure of property' especially the seizure of property that had nothing to do with an alleged crime especially as there appears to be guidelines but no specific laws for the police to follow. I would also liked to have read more about the current grumble that the police spend far too much time trying to achieve a conviction rather than establishing the truth resulting in many miscarriages of justice. This is by far the greatest complaint about the British system that will one day have to be addressed by our law-makers. The secret Family Court system was also barely covered especially where the Social Services witnesses seem to enjoy greater credibility that any other others and where perjury by the SS always goes unpunished. This secrecy prevents wrong-doings by judges and other officials from being exposed as they would be in an open court where proceedings can be reported to the press. The secrecy of courts may be justified in a few cases but 'secret' courts are anathema to most followers of justice.

In summation, this book has filled many gaps in my knowledge and is extremely well put together and written in jargon free English .

THE LAW MACHINE was written by Marcel Berlins and Clare Dyer

The Law Machine was written first and foremost for laymen, individuals and institutions that do not know how the legal system operates. For this reason there is no doubt that everyone is entitled to benefit from this book. But for active lawyers in private or corporate practice it a detailed reminder; for students of law: academic, bar and law society it is an invaluable companion.

The authors were legal correspondents as well as practicing lawyers with varied experiences. Marcel was presenter of the London Weekend Television (LWT) series `The Law Machine' on which documentary the book was produced. The programme explained clearly how the British legal system worked using fictitious motor car accident driven by John Smith knocked down Anne Jones.

The incident had two legal consequences. The criminal prosecution for violating Road Traffic Act at the crown court, and civil suit at the High Court in tort of negligence resulting from breach of duty of care. While the former attracted criminal sanction of imprisonment or fine, the civil suit is/was meant to enable anyone (Anne) get damages for injuries suffered.

Though it was staged however professional lawyers acted as they normally would do in appropriate real life situation. The witnesses and jury were laymen who played similar roles in cases in court. The result was a thorough, clear and comprehensive guide on how a layman can understand and be able to describe the legal system.

Perhaps protocol was treated with levity when sitting judges including the then Lord Chancellor, Lord Hailsham of St Marylebone were interviewd by LWT for this programme. As to whether the British legal system had attained the enviable height expected of it, he said if what was being celeberated is complacency "let us have more of it".

In chapter I the authors discussed how complex legal system could produce justice for all. The establishment of Citizens Advisory Bureaux and legal centres across the country were to enable ordinary Brton recover some compensation as Anne Jones was able to do in the LWT programme, the alternative would have been without any remedy.

The structure of courts and hierarchical significance were discussed by the authors in chapter II. Because of the ignorance of the law and apathy on the part of laymen the court is regarded as a place of drama and uncertainty. They quoted H.L. Mencken, American journalist who described a courtroom as a place where Jesus Christ and Judas Iscariot would be equals, with the betting odds in favour of Judas. The authors used "simplified diagram of English Courts" for illustration.

There is a divided legal profession in Britain. The barristers are lawyers called to the bar who have audience in courts having been enrolled by any of the four Inns. There are on the other hand, solicitors who were trained to draft conveyances and legal documents and obtain briefs from litigants and pass them on to barristers of appropriate expertise to litigate. Litigants are not allowed to brief barristers directly. However, some legislation came into effect to make solicitors have audience in some courts; these solicitors have to display knowledge of High Court proceedings as well as courts where small claims are in issue. All these and more were discussed by the authors in chapter III. The attempt to fuse the two practices was made and law reform failed to take place even though a fused legal profession appeared to be in vogue across the world.

The British court judges are seen as enigma by ordinary Briton. Apart from the classes of judges and their emoluments which the authors displayed and attributed their aloofness, their training is also one of the factors which made it difficult for ordinary Briton to interact with judges. Equally important factor why judges are disconnected from the rest of the society is the role of an umpire they play. They have to be seen to maintain the independence of the institution they represent. Some of their decisions do lead to legal reform. In some cases changes are introduced as a result of their decisions. Part of judicial acitivities include plugging legislative loopholes where there is lacuna; in such rare cases they act as `law makers' even though judges like Lord Denning were criticized for usurping the role of the legislature.

Magistracy is one of the most important structure of British legal system and the authors dicussed this in chapter V. Interestingly there are fewer full-time stipendiary magistrates than unpaid part-time lay magistrates across the country. The rationale, their disqualification, gender balancing, recruitment, training, and the future of lay magistracy were fully discussed by the authors.

Perhaps the criminal justice system is the closest to ordinary individuals than any other. In chapter VI titled `Criminal Process' the authors captures the motor car accident involving John Smith and 25-year old Anne Jones who had just dropped her daughter Katy at school and was knocked down at Laurel Street T-junction.

The authors explained how civil litigation are processed in chapter VII by using Jane's misfortune and examined who should be responsible for the financial losses arising from the accident. There are different types of action, for instance Jane's action is in tort, precisely negligence. It is interesting to note the detailed role of solicitors in Jane's medical history and disposition to earn income, the role of insurance companies to setlle out of court. Unfortunately Anne had to pursue her case to the bitter end after three-year trial with $43,612 as compensation. The chapter ended with the examination of possible reforms looking beyond British jurisdiction.

Divorce proceeding is a major civic litigation in Britain a lot of these proceedings derive from accident claims annually. The authors in chapter VIII estimated that 30,000 of such divorce proceedings yearly came after accident claims. The common thread in all of them is breach of contractor negligence. About 99% of divorce proceedings are undefended. Any defended proceeding would be transferred to High Court where litigation is expensive. An affidavit of evidence and statements is all the Registrar/court requires to proclaim decree nisi which lingers till 6 weeks after which decree absolute is made and parties became free to marry again. Agreement is required between the parties regarding properties and children and an order of court is made accordingly.

The measurement varies with circumstance of the parties and children; no hard and fast rule, however in 1973 Lord Denning's judgment created a precedent of a third of the value of the couple's property, but over the years courts have changed the one-third because of supplementary benefit, increased income, children's maintenance etc of parties.

A layperson�s legal reference that fits as a bedtime reading

If anyone would like to gain a bit of knowledge about the English legal system, the Law Machine would be a perfect read. This book contains materials that are great for dinner party conversations. But, if one were serious about studying ELS at a university setting, then this book would only serve as a starting reference point to one's journey.

Save yourself some time and money, avoid it until a substantial rewrite of this book is available.

This is by far the worst self study book for Cisco certifications I have had a chance to read. It is chaotic, very poorly organized, with repeated material, and plenty of technical and editorial issues. I could survive editorial issues (it is a new book, after all), but technical errors bother me, especially when the book is advertised as a reference guide for self study.
Beware, a lot of answers to test questions included in the book are wrong, sometimes mixed around, at other times swapped between chapters. If you're studying for CCNP, save yourself a disappointment and go for CCNP Routing and Switching v2.0 Official Cert Guide Library instead - at least the number of technical errors is substantially lower and the flow of description has some sense to it, allowing a person follow the logic and learn something.
