Delicious Wordplay Here!

This book is lush. Lush with wordplay. Lush with illustrations. The publisher, Williamson Books, put a lot of care and a lot of coin into this wonderful, refreshing splash of word games for children. Adults will love it, too. Such a presentation is the stuff wordplay dreams are made of! It reflects the high energy, creativity, and fun that author/illustrator Michael Kline put into it. The book begins with the "basic rules for the Wordplay Caf�." Then it discusses recipes for word games, each of which includes a short description of how to prepare the word game and a list of ingredients. There are many word games, each using a different form or approach to wordplay. Word Ways readers will be delighted to see the bouncy way the book casts a new, bright light on many familiar logological forms. Word Square Snack, Acrostic Appetizers, Palindrome Potluck-let's look for a moment at that last one. It begins with a definition of palindrome, and it includes several clear, basic examples, such as "A Toyota," "Tod sees Dot," " Step on no pets," and others. Then it suggests looking through the newspaper for palindromes, beginning with simple ones, such as "mom" and "pop." And then it shows the Recipe, which "serves 2 players," and it lists the ingredients. A section called Brain Candy gives the etymology and history of palindromes (Sotades is here). A section called Taste Test asks "Can you find two palindromes in the following poem?" and shows a 4-line poem. Wonderfully wild watercolor cartoons accompany the text. Some of the other sections/games include: Add a Gram of Anagrams, Homonym Grits, Jabberwock Soup Stock, Mirror Word Macaroni & Cheese, Synonym Rolls, Word Chain Casserole, Spoonerisms You Can Eat With a Fork, and many more. You'll be back for seconds, thirds, twentieths, and you'll want to bring your friends to dig your knives and forks into this delightful, brightlightful taste of just how far wordplay can go, whether you've got an empty stomach or a full brain! Fun for the entire family

Kline has a wonderful sense of humour that can be appreciated by any age group. He really challenges kids (and adults) to look at language in a different way - the fun way! The book reads like a rollercoaster ride...or maybe a better analogy would pinball machine: it bounces off topics and tangents in a delightfully free-wheeling manner. Not for ADD kids, this book is meant for children who are willing to engage with subject matter for a wonderful reward. Kline's book belongs in the category of "children's books" the way that Bloom County belonged in the same comics section of the paper with Funky Winkerbean and Family Circus. This book truly works best when the whole family joins in on the fun. The activities are perfect for getting fun discussions going between children and adults. A highly recommended read for anyone (at any age) who wants to re-discover language and have fun along the way.

Awesome Book - Money Well Spent

This book is fantastic. It will provide countless hours of enjoyment and verbal challenges for people of all ages. The book is very original and imaginative. Getting acquainted with Baxter the cat is an added bonus. The book is great for an individual reading it, or for word play games for an entire group. This is a fabulous resource for teachers of any grade level. Also, people who love puns and plays on words will be enthralled with this book. There are so many different activities and wordplay games introduced in this book that it never gets old or repetitive. Michael Kline is a verbal genius. Perhaps he should kick back and enjoy some Verbal Tea.

Treat yourself to that rare technical book that combines excellent info with interesting (and motivating) writing

Donald W. Connelly's Digital Radio Production, 2nd edition is impressive to this former educator and new streaming and broadcast radio graduate. Incredibly helpful and thorough grounding in radio production skills. Very well-written. I certainly wasn't expecting any such thing out of a technical book. He often caught me by surprise and even made me laugh.

He's masterful at motivating students in a concise way to excellent habits. Consider this small gem, ""Always back up your work. There is nothing more frustrating than to have a file corrupted or have someone accidentally delete a file, and it will happen. With a backup file, you grin like a Cheshire cat and save the day for everyone."

The book covers the basics of using the most popular digital editing software, very specific tips (and a CD with 93 cuts of examples of good and bad audio production), types of microphones and tips for positioning them for various situations and effects, control boards and mixing, the roles a production person plays, the art of storytelling, fieldwork and live recording on location, processing audio, web casting, broadcasting, and much more.

College students who want to go into any aspect of radio production will want this book for its excellent advice on how to prepare and advance in this as a career field and for the sections on getting and keeping a first job and on writing a resume. My earlier degree was in elementary education. I only wish I'd had such guidance for my efforts to job hunt.

I wish I'd had this book assigned as my textbook the semester I took Audio Production. The one assigned was available used and cheap, but it was boring and greatly lacking in helping us understand the radio industry as it is today. Digital Radio Production serves up a first-rate education that makes it a resource to hang onto after the semester is done. I got my copy after graduating because I knew I have much more to learn in the field for the radio work I am entering. My copy of Connelly's book was used but not as cheap as the assigned textbook. It was worth every penny.

Best buy for those serious about clay

Phenomenal book. It covers the entire ceramic process from the constituents of the clay to drying, firing and glazing or decorating. The descriptions border on the scientific but are written in such a way that you can pick the book up to read for leasure.

Within its pages you will find how to mix a clay for a specific purpose, how to support huge statues and keep small tiles straight. How to fire bisquit and how to glaze (in detail and with recepies, but this is not a glaze book) or decorate. Whether you want to cast 10 thee pots or make a lifesize sculpture of an giraffe you will find hints and tips on how to do it. Everything you need to take your ceramics over the edge.

The artworks that illustrate the book and are used as examples might not be to everyones taste (they come from a school for experimental ceramics afterall) but they fit the explanations perfectly.

If you are serious about your ceramics and want to buy one book that explains the process without specialising on only one type of application (tiles, pots, sculpture) look no further!

If you are new to pottery of sculpture the contents might be a bit daunting.

This book is unlike any other ceramics books I've seen. The Ceramic Process presents detailed technical information based on years of testing and application at the European Ceramic Work Centre. For example, this is the book to go to if you want to know how to _calculate_ the proper amount of deflocculant to use in making terra sigillata. The presentation and writing are clear and well organized. Tables and figures help quantify topics -- the book even has the occasional equation scattered through the text! Photos illustrate most everything, and other photos show the range of adventuresome and inspiring ceramics produced at the Centre.

This is book has an accessible language and it can be understood for those who are starting or in a advanced level in Ceramics world. The photos and the explanations are gorgeous.

Disappointing story, but shows promise to come.

"Fury of Rachel Monette" is a thriller where a young Jewish woman searches for her abducted son, but soon finds herself at the center of an international conspiracy to destroy Israel. She crosses paths with another Jewish man with a dark past, and who is the key to the whole conspiracy. The idenitity of the abductor is shocking, and you will feel gratified at the ending, but the whole thing rings hollow by the time you get there.

A Crime of Passion

"When do we take off our masks, put on our hats and walk off the stage?" The victim was lured into this trap with one of the robot's enthusiasm about cooking a meal for her. He supposedly worked in the kitchen of an expensive restaurant who works with social workers to hire felons right out of prison. He's not as young as he appears and his fingers have no finger nails. She thought they were messages from God, and he was the "real man" she'd asked God to send to her.

Using toys to make up for their deficiency, nothing works right. Long and floppy, it is frustration for the girl. They needed to make terrific adjustments but did not know how. That's just the beginning of weird abnormal behavior and they know only the animal version which doesn't work. "Get on your knees" is not for an execkution but an aborigense approach. "I suppose I did...but I can't remember when I did, or how." These men are demented, but though she talked like a lady, she could fight like wildcats. One got away but how many of the homeless were lured into damnation and didn't live to talk about it. Too many people talked too much. Rachel was driven by a quiet fury and absolutely would not give up her quest until she learns the truth. This was a journey back in time which taught other bad times whe had wanted to forget. She learned how to use her own destructive power. We are only on this earth once and for too short a time to hurt the people we love. Rachel did not know the meaning of the word forgiveness but, thank goodness, Mark, knows all words and even how to spell them. He was the object of her fury. It was the devil at work to make people unhappy and run away. If you run from the one you hurt even inadvertently, you may never have another chance for someone to love you. A person with unloving parents grows up to commit the same mistakes and still has a lot to learn as we pass through our time here on earth. I like that song, "Love Will Keep Us Together."
