Fantastic supplement

This is an amazing supplement. I knew next to nothing about the Constitution when this class began. After the class started, I was completely lost for about 4-5 weeks especially since our class, like most, was letting students ramble on without any clear points. I bought the case briefs but they were only good for providing case summaries. I bought Chemerinsky and while I love that book, it isn't exactly what you need for a law school exam. But after getting this supplement, everything changed.

I went from knowing next to nothing about the Constitution to being extremely comfortable in the class discussions. This book summarizes concepts, it clarifies the differences between cases, it provides clear guidance as to the history of the law's development, and most importantly, it provides a brief summary of the significance of the cases and a good summary of the state of the law as it exists today (which is what you really need for the exam). it dedicates a lot of time to equal protection and substantive due process and explains all of those cases in an easily-understood format. And amazingly, it gives you great guidance as to areas of case analysis that your professor will likely explore like the significance of social sciences in the Brown v. Board of Education case. But none of that is even the best part of this book...

The best part of this book is it's assistance as a study guide. It points out common areas where you are likely to be tested (standing, affirmative action, abortion) and for me, it even gave me advance warning on a specific exam question, namely, how much the law has changed regarding abortion since the Casey decision. When I saw that question on my exam, I just laughed. I ended up getting a B+ on the final and in the class.

You'll do better in Con law just by reading this book, rather than studying your textbook. Get the same information as your textbook (but read 1/50th the amount) and test your knowledge. Much more efficient, much more sane.

The best commercial outline I have come across in law school

This book is worth its weight in gold. I have used it in two classes (and I should be using it to prepare for my Con Law II exam now, rather than writing this review). It includes thorough case summaries, many of which include concurrences and dissents. Ties the cases together in a way that highlights each case's significance. The case summaries are the most useful during classes, but when it comes time for exams, it includes topical outlines, "capsule summaries," exam tips, study questions, literally everything you could possibly want in a study aid. I could kiss Stephen L. Emanuel. I should probably include that I got the highest grade in my Constitutional Law I class. Obviously you still need to read and pay attention in class, but this book really helps to clarify constitutional law, which can often be a very muddy subject.

Brilliant

The history of philosophy is a gigantic canvas.

There are books that masterfully describe this history such as Bertrand Russell's 'History of Western Philosophy' and then there are books that make you fall hopelessly in love with the subject.

Marias' book is written by someone having such a love affair and its effect on the reader is infectious.

Following his mentor, Ortega y Gasset's, advice that 'clarity is courtesy', Marias (and his translators) use language to effortlessly and comprehensively explain the most difficult of concepts. This is the exception rather than the rule in the annals of philosophy.

You feel swept along by the personalities as much as their theories in this gem of a book.

I cannot praise this work highly enough. It is brilliant.

A Fine History of Western Philosophy

Juli�n Mar�as's "Historia de la Filosof�a," translated by Stanley Appelbaum and Clarence C. Strowbridge, is an excellent introduction to the history of Western philosophical thought. First published in Madrid in 1941, it has gone through 22 editions in Spanish and has become the standard classroom text on the subject throughout the Spanish-speaking world. The book covers virtually all the major philosophers and schools from the Pre-Socratics to mid-twentieth century. Influential secondary figures are treated extensively as well. As a one-volume reference to the history of philosophy, Marias's text succeeds admirably. The book has four parts: Greek Philosophy, Christianity, Medieval Philosophy, and Modern Philosophy, this last part being the largest in extent and broadest in thematic scope. Christianity, the shortest part, deals basically with Patristic speculation and Augustine, and serves as a prelude to Scholasticism. The narrative is consistently well-structured, clear and precise. A thorough bibliography and index are included. At times the author avoids delving too deeply into some topic when this reader felt that a more profound treatment would have been preferable. Perhaps that is inevitable in a work of this breadth intended for a general audience. Fortunately, it does not occur too often and certainly does not diminish the worth of the book as a whole. "History of Philosophy" rightfully earns a five-star rating.

Great for Comps.

This is a fine overall history of philosophy. It is accurate and concise, and very helpful for anyone who has to take comprehensive exams for philosophy (this was the purpose of the book in the first place, compiled from his wife's class notes for a comp. review class he conducted). Besides covering the major trends and salient features of certain philosopher's positions, it also lists their major works and subsequent influence in the tradition.

Excelent Transcriptions!!!!

If you like Malmsteen's trilogy album, you should get this book. It has the most complete tabs you'll ever find of Malmsteen the only problem with it is that you buy it hopping that you'll end up playing like Yingwie, and of course you don't, unless you practice enough. The only reason I don't give this book 5 stars, is because the frustration one gets, but anyway, if you like Malmsteen, you should get it.

This book will help you deal with those frustatring solos that Yngwie does so fast. "Crying" is possibly the best transcription I've seen in a music book. All the songs have the chords done nicely, and the fast solos are transribed note-to-note! YES! Very good job! I hope to see more good tab books like this soon!

Wolf should have known better...

I saved up and bought this book as a 17 yr old kid back in the 80s...most other reviews are correct, you wont get a whole lot out of this book unless you put in 6-8+ hours a day practicing...i actually was playing that much guitar back then, and this was and still is above and beyond what most of us can ever hope to play...
...kudos to Wolf Marshall for attempting to (and succeeding for the most part) transcribe a truely amazing album...curiously though, i have always wondered over the years, why Marshall used a 22 fret guitar and not the 21 fret like Yngwie would most certainly have used?...the only Stratocasters i am aware of with a 22 fret neck were a few japanese built strats, and its highly unlikely Malmer's would have used one of those to record Trilogy...in any case it is as close as you'll likely get without taking a lesson from Yngwie himself...
